YOUR CASA ON THE BEACH

Casa Lo de Marcos is a beautifully appointed casa located on the beach of Lo de Marcos, about an hour's drive north of Puerto Vallarta.  The casa patio entrance is 50 steps from the ocean and within easy walking distance to stores and restaurants in the pueblo.  Enjoy the rhythm of the waves and stroll along the breathtaking beach — with the exception of Christmas week and Semana Santa (the holy week before Easter), the beach is never crowded.

Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the pool and raised terrace make for a relaxing experience.  As one of our guests says, “If you love to read, write, philosophize, march to your own tune, and just let your days unfold according to your whim, then this is a wonderful place to vacation.”

Our casa features:

  • Two bedrooms with queen beds & two bathrooms with showers

  • A full kitchen well stocked with cooking utensils and equipment, coffee-maker, dishware

  • Beach-side backyard with pool and plenty of beach supplies, including towels

  • Secure access, garage parking, free Wi-Fi, and housekeeping services

You become a part of the rhythm of the tides, the waves, and the gentle breezes of the playa when you spend time at beautiful Casa lo de Marcos.

A MILE OF OPEN BEACH

The beach at Lo de Marcos is only a few steps from your casa!

The Golden Sand beach is one mile in length, and you will rarely see more than a few dozen people on the shore from end to end at any given time.

You will find a cove on the south end (which we fondly call “Kailee’s Cove”) where you can snorkel, swim, boogie board, and surf.  This end of the beach is great for those who enjoy a less vigorous surf experience.  Here, you also can enjoy walking along an ancient lava shelf, which has tide pools and seaside treasures to explore in it’s many nooks and crannies.

On the north end of the beach you will find a freshwater estuary where you can enjoy bird watching.  Here you can see many varieties of birds, including pelicans, herons, egrets, cormorants and other ducks, frigates, and sandpipers.

Depending on the tide, shore break can be rough at times, and although there are usually no strong undertows known from the middle of the beach to the south end, we remind you to always use caution when entering the ocean.  Watch for the conditions flags on the lifeguard station to warn of daily surf and current conditions

Lo de Marcos

LO DE MARCOS: AUTHENTIC, CHARMING, & UNSPOILED

The pueblo of Lo de Marcos has a population of about three thousand people.  The main street is approximately one mile long from the highway to the beach and it is the center of the town's commerce.  You will find many stores with basic staples, as well as shops featuring gifts and beachwear and supplies.  If you don't find what you're looking for in one store, try the next one!  There are several fresh fruit and vegetable stands in town.  There is also a beautiful town plaza on the main road, a few blocks from the beach, where you can find many special events and activities.

Lo de Marcos is home to many local restaurants featuring Mexican cuisine, seafood, and also some international flavors (yes, your kids can order pizza!).  On Saturday evenings, taco stands spring up along the main street and around the town plaza, a great opportunity for a “taco crawl”!  Small town nightlife at local bars and restaurants give residents and tourists alike a chance to mingle and enjoy local culture, music, and conversation.  While the pueblo is charming and unhurried, you will also find the convenience of ATMs, a pharmacy, cellular phone reception, and other amenities of modern life.

The town is also the home of La Casa de los Niños, an after-school enrichment center that was founded by the owners of Casa Lo de Marcos, Dave and Patti Martinez,  and their friends Jim and Dulce Heinrich.  La Casa is funded entirely by donations, and we also welcome volunteers to come work at La Casa.  Please check out our website for La Casa de los Niños, and we invite you to come visit when you are in town.

Ride the Surf
The south end of the beach is the best place to enjoy surf activities.  Surf boards, boogie boards and stand up paddle boards are available to rent through XPlore Mexico’s rental stand right on the beach.  You can arrange lessons with Oliver Cruz at the beach rental location or at his store in town.  He is also available for hiking tours in the area. www.xploremx.com
Horseback Riding
Enjoy the beach on horseback!  We suggest a guided horseback riding tour along the beaches or into the jungle led by Lenny. Email: lenny.parra03@gmail.com.
Fishing, Snorkeling, Whale Watching
If you are into fishing, snorkeling or just want to go watch whales, there are a couple of boating services also located on the beach.  They are Nissi Boat Tours, www.nissi-tours.com and Mauricio’s Tours, find him on the beach or on Facebook!
Outdoor Market
Lo de Marcos has a wonderful outdoor market on Saturdays from 9am to around 2pm from November through March.  Here you will find Mexican artisans, bakers, musicians, food and refreshments.  The market is located on the main street just past the town plaza.

Sea Turtles
The Lo de Marcos beach is a nesting habitat for endangered sea turtles from June through October each year.  During nesting season, members of the Lo de Marcos Sea Turtle Conservation Program patrol the beach at night to find and collect the eggs in order to protect them from poachers. The eggs are taken to a nursery to incubate for forty-five days.

Once hatched the turtles are released at sundown at a spot on the beach about a hundred yards north of Casa lo De Marcos.  Visitors are encouraged to observe, take pictures, and may be invited to help with the release of sea turtles.  For more information, visit Campamento Tortuguero Lo De Marcos on Facebook.
Taste of Lo de Marcos
This annual event (held in February) features music as well as food from restaurants located in the pueblo.  Shoppers will also find unique handcrafted items and jewelry for purchase.

This event benefits The Amigos de Lo de Marcos, A.C., who provide service and funding for many of the projects undertaken in this coastal town, and also the Citizens Actions Committee of Lo De Marcos, who are responsible for organizing annual traditional and cultural events.
Sailing
How about a sailing tour around the Bahia Banderas? There are two services we recommend:

Both services are based in Sayulita and will provide a shuttle to their boats in La Cruz Huanacaxtle on the Bahia.
Day Trips to Neighboring Towns
Want to escape the quiet haven of Lo de Marcos for a day?  Perhaps take a drive south to Sayulita, where surf, sun, and yoga collide.  Stop at the pueblo of San Pancho on your way back for dinner at one of the town's many fine dining establishments.

Or head north to the giant open-air market held every Thursday in La Peñita.  Wherever you go, please take a moment to stop in the tiny towns and spend some time (and money) with the residents of the Nayarit coast.

Don't miss the petroglyphs at Alta VistaThey are  located on the way to Chacala at the turnoff to Alta Vista. You will need a car or a guide.  Oliver with XPlore MX can take you.  www.xploremx.com
Annual  La Casa de los Niños
Fundraiser & Dinner Dance
We hope you will join us in March for our fundraiser to support La Casa de los Niños, the pueblo's after-school enrichment center (founded by your hosts, Dave and Patti Martinez along with their friends Jim and Dulce Heinrich).  This annual outdoor event celebrates and supports our children with live music, dancing, local cuisine, and tons of fun!
